the words are here: A STOR MO CHROI in the database we have had a few threads about copyright, (if you type "copyright" into the filter box and set the age for maybe one year... you should find them)

I don't know the answer regarding this song... but we haven't been chased to remove it from the forum yet... so that's a good sign....

I have it on a CD called "Tears of Stone" with the Chieftans and it is sung by Bonny Raitt on Dobro with Hutch Hutchinson on bass. It is arranged by Paddy Maloney.

It is a very beautiful song, whatever it's pedigree. Paddy Maloney calls it 'traditional'.

The song is associated with the singing of Rita & Sarah Keane from Couty Galway (Aunts of Dolores & Sean Keane) and also (my favourite version with Mick Flynn from Miltown Malbay and his wife Jane. Recorded on his CD "A singers dozen" released a couple of years back.

A beautiful recent version is Iarla Ó Líonáird's from the 'Aislingí Ceol/Music of Dreams'
album he shares with Tony MacMahon et al. There's also a version on a sean nós compilation from Cló Iar-Chonnachta - 'Grand Airs of Connemara' (I think) where I can't quite remember who does it
possibly Seán ac'Donncha. Very fine song alright.

The version I know is slightly different. Listen, by the way, to the lovely singing of The Voice Squad, for a nice version of this.

I particularly like the use of the old "throng and list" cliche, which is almost Arthurian.

Here's the version I know:
